Leika is born into a magical world where powerful Spirits are trapped inside human Hosts, unable to return to the Spirit Realm even upon the death of the human. For 300 years those unfortunate enough to be born a Host have been killed as infants, hated and feared as adults, or sought out and used as weapons by those seeking power. Unbeknownst to her, Leika carries the twin Spirit of the Dragon and the Jackal. Kept in a web of falsehoods her whole life, Leika unwittingly became a force of destruction at the hands of others. However, a small act of kindness in her otherwise isolated life leads to her freedom and a journey to discover all she can about the world she’s been kept away from, and the secrets of the Spirits dwelling within her.
In this section of the story, Leika must confront the reality of her emotions beginning to bloom for the first time and her inability to control them. After failing to save her friend with her own power, The Jackal is unleashed and with it her unbridled rage and grief. Destruction befalls a nearby town, leaving Leika alone in the wake of her own great and terrible power.
